My service career spans near 40 years so I&#8217;ve seen a lot of stuff and can offer some insight. I have always strived to expand my personal knowledge base so as to better understand heat pump design and operation but <em>I&#8217;m still learning<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Socrates said, &#8220;The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.&#8221; Over the years,  I would at times begin thinking I had &#8220;seen it all&#8221; and then confront some issue I had never seen. For certain, all the stuff you see in the field is explainable through all the science and engineering behind the design but sometimes, we don&#8217;t fully understand the science well enough to recognize the explanation. You don&#8217;t have to be a scientist or engineer to diagnose heat pump problems, you just need to understand what they do and how they do it.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s not in my plans to attempt to teach &#8220;Refrigeration 101&#8221; or &#8220;Heat Pumps 101&#8221;. I will assume most techs who show up already have the basics behind them and just need assistance on a particular issue or clarification of some aspect of the basics.
